TOUCHED BY THE LIGHT

Vision Statement:

“Touched By The Light” is an image which has a place in every home on earth. It encourages us to remember to slowly seize and savor the opportunity of each moment so that each of us can fully experience the touch of the light emanating from the caregiver of our universe.

Mission Statement:

“Touched By The Light” is the vehicle to uplift our universal consciousness of a powerful force that is far greater than the natural. Through the mentorship and patronage of kindred spirits it is our goal to share this vision globally through the active participation of those who can feel and share this vision. This image has been produced in several formats in order to make it accessible to all and to meet the various levels of artistic interest – for fine art collections, family displays, as well as decorator selections. No matter the form this image will spiritually impart an encouraging and hopeful ambiance and promote introspective calm as one ponders the light source captured in this piece of art.

The Capturing Of The Image “Touched By The Light”.

The image was captured on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at approximately 11am on a bright sun shiny day in Philadelphia Pa. I was at a political rally at the time of the capture, the image is completely unstaged and the only light source I used was the sun.

    I am committed to the image Touched By The Light being placed on the wall of every family’s home on Earth. To encourage all of us to remember to slow down and seize the opportunity of each moment. We can then realize we all are touched by the light of the universe our supreme caregiver.

    Hi, Ray. I was asked to write something with regards to your wonderful shot, (by Herman). Here goes:

    drenched by the light
    encouraged, strenghtened
    and led by it

    the source of his power
    not known to all, yet
    awesome anyway

    standing confidently
    and self-assured
    ready to lead the people

    brown skin illuminated,
    highlighting chiseled features,
    like a statue

    odds stacked against him
    remaining prepared
    for the task at hand

    He knows the journey ahead
    is long and hard
    but he has been chosen
    and stands ready to face
    and change tomorrow

    for he has been….
    touched by the light

      “OBAMA”
      The Obama generation, will soon be one nation. America is taking a stand, pretty soon, we’ll all be strong. How long? Not long. Yes we can keep hope alive; things won’t be the same, for we’ve heard our leader say: It’s time for a change! We the American people will persevere and grow strong, I know for some; this day has taken oh so long. My black, brown and yellow race went from Negro, to colored people, to blacks, to African-Americans, now that Obama is President, just like Moses, just like Martin, America welcomes this humble godsend! We will be known as Americans, for the sufferings of the slaves has an end, the wounds will mend, we’re working to rebuild America with liberty and justice for all, America has abolished the segregation wall, we love Obama, for his intelligence, for the sway in his walk, we sit and listen intently, whenever he talks, he’s a man’s man, that took a stand, and he didn’t use the word I, he want us all to work as a team, this way we can help fulfill Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream. Obama want us all to be willing to lend a helping hand. What amazed me, was the newly elected vice President, when he let the whole world know, as he sat on the Oprah Show, that he’s learned a lot from Obama. He’s a White man, letting the world know, in this new age, a black man wasn’t different, but here he was, learning from this humble gent, to me, it was rewarding to hear, when so long ago, it was the black man the White man feared. I’m not saying Joe Biden feared us, I’m talking about the ones that felt it necessary for the blacks to head for the back of the bus! Free at last, those days are gone, never to remember again, like shredded paper the past is torned, we’re moving forward with hope in our hearts, we’ve shattered the segregation wall, with liberty and justice for us all, in God we trust, we’ll remember in mind, by being neighborly, having compassion, while helping all man kind.

    The striking pose you captured during the campaign is very unusual–I don’t recall having seen that expression on his face in any of the many photos. The sunlight must have emitted a strong light at that moment.

    President Obama’s expression is very serious, even mystical. His feet are placed firmly on the ground and he is standing tall as always. It is a good photograph.

    When I first saw “Touched By The Light” It immediately inspired me to think deeper; it told me that we are truly one people in this world; we come and go full circle; the “light” tells us that whatever is good for some of us, is good for all of us in terms of what God wants for us. Now I have always known that in my heart. The “light” confirms this. Our president was chosen to be the one to finally pull us together as God had intended. Now, we wait and just know that we will find that oneness. Just remember the “light”!

    But, now I saw this Image ,and although I have not fully changed my position.I have softened my perspective ,and feel that President Obama has the possibility of infinite potential,and I am going to give you a chance.Pray for you,and your administration ,and the world ,and hope for the best.I remain critical of you and your choices ,and policies,but I leave room for the divine to work thru you as well.I am proud of you Black Man.Just to become the president should be enough, your campapn was flawless,and your success was complete,but I challenge you to stay true to what you campaigned about.To stay true to you.We are all counting on you .Please remember this a goverment of the people,by the people ,and for the people.All power is in the people not the Plutocrocy,not the banks,not the fat cats.The bar is raised high ,and the potential is infinite.Barack this from a critic who wants to be a friend .Peace to you ,and your family But ,remember peace is not cheap;the price of peace is struggle.What I am really trying to say is struggle for us Barack ,and don’t sell us out.peace Thank you MANOHAR AKA Raymond Holman.ShantiShantiShanti!!!!!

    I have a postcard of the Touched By The Light on my desk as well as the larger print in my home. I have been looking at the pictures for months trying to determine what it is saying. I have heard and read what other people get from the picture. This is what I see.

    Knowing how unlikely it was that a black man would win the presidency and how difficult and dangerous the campaign was, what I see in this picture is God’s anointing falling upon Mr. Obama. The sunshine (God) strikes his chest (heart, love, compassion),face (eyes to see, mind to think) and open hand (strength, generous spirit, openness) covering him with the full armor of God. Providing us with hope for a better tomorrow.

    My intention is to not post many comments on this blog, but today I had to. We human beings really need to figure out how to love each other and have patience with each other. I was reading a story about a young Chinese teen aged girl (her name is Lou Jing) who lives in China with her mother. Lou Jing is half black half Chinese. She is being harassed for being of mixed blood, her father is a black man. I did not realize how bad race relationships were in China when it came to black people. In this world we have reached a certain point of understanding, but we still have a very long way to go. I do not understand why this image “Touched By The Light” is so important to me but it is. We must learn forgiveness, I must learn forgiveness. We most learn who we really are. I will be the first to admit I have a long way to go, but let’s all try our best each day.

    “TOUCHED BY THE LIGHT”

    “Touched by the light” in focus through the dreams of awakening eyes;
    Lost ships searching near and far for the outstretched beacon of his guide;
    Shinning on him a brilliance similar to the sun reaching for the hand of the divine;
    One by one the whole masses of sleeping darkness moved towards the declarations scribed in red and white within a bright sky of blue;
    High sails under the darkness with eyes weary from their nighttime travels prayed for a world of peace and a light for growth of a new;
    In their sights, this Obama of a man and Hallelujah crying in the wind towards his light so true;
    Inside this light, the Glory of God for all to see and a promise also made for you;
    God is light and light reveals if you only believe

    Our leader the President of the United States of America has the capacity to not only follow the light of the spirit within himself, but in this photo he seems to be able to radiate that inner light out towards humanity. This photograph represents moving towards the brightest light, with out fear, no matter who you are, or where you have come from. Illustrating the point that, the light of trust belongs to everyone.

    The ancestors are beaming. Can you imagine the grandfathers who died before you were born, sitting with the Aunts, Uncles and grandmothers who saw you growing up. They are all saying “That’s my baby”.

    His Obama shot is a great one. It takes more than luck to make that kind of picture-the response is an indication of the power of the image.

    “After taking time to consider “Touched by the Light” both as a complete body of work and as a title; it is evident Mr. Holman captured a man who decided to grasp the light, making it more feasible for individuals such as myself to be touched by that same light. In addition, the work of art and the artist serve as the medium in which we are all touched by the light! So walk in the light If it gets a little dark remember Obama dared grasp it, while Raymond shows the tangible proof it is possible.

      Thanks Phil,

      That is my understanding of this image also. We are all touched by the same light. The light of the Universe. As True Human Beings it is our birth right as human beings to experience that inner truth, if we desire to. We just have to make the self effort to have the experience. It is hard, but all of the great beings say it is possible. We all have great potential. Obama, became President Obama. We all can reach great heights! OM.

    When I look at this photo I can’t help to wonder if the President would consider it one of his ‘best photos.’I really like this photo named Touched By The The Light (TBTL). In TBTL, our President Obama seems radiant, strong, regal, welcoming, composed, yet vulnerable. Mr Holman captures the Pesident in the most extraordinary ways.

    I have been having an odd conversation off and on this week regarding “Touched By The Light”. Please understand I do not see this image of Obama I captured as a symbol that this man is higher then God. I see it as a unique image because of the way the sunlight high lighted him at that moment. There are actually a lot of very good images of President Obama captured for the most part by White House staff photographers who are very aware and accustom to the environment and habits of President Obama. And I honor and respect their images. To me Raymond W. Holman Jr., my experience of having captured this image is one of gratitude to the Universe. And because I find the image motivating my desire is to share the image with the world. So I ask people who log on to my blog to respond with their heart not their mind. May we all experience great love in our life now!

    YOUR PHOTOS EXHIBIT THE QUALITIES OF SOMEONE WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE DIVINE QUALITIES OF GOD (IE., LIGHT, SOUND AND VIBRATION). I HAVE SEEN YOU SET-UP AND TAKE PHOTOS AT THE MEDITATION CENTER. YOU SEEM TO BECOME A WITNESS TO THE PLAY OF CONSCIOUSNESS BEFORE YOU. YOU THEN AS JESUS INSTRUCTED HIS DISCIPLES, SEEM TO “WATCH AND PRAY”. THE PHOTO IS TAKEN/SNAPPED IN AN NON EGOIST SURRENDER TO GOD”S HIGHER FORCES. IT IS AS IF YOU ARE IN MEDITATION. YOUR PHOTO OF PRESIDENT OBAMA QUITE LITERALLY EXHIBITS THIS.

    “It’s Time For A Change!”

    Some of us, are ready for a change,and then it’s some of us, who thinks it’s srange.

    Why can’t we all live happy together, why is it that it’s just some of us who want the whole world to do better?

    We have a new President, that’s trying his best,it seems like some of us are trying to break him…trying so hard to cause him stress; but keep on Mr. President, and do what you do,because there’s somebody who’s on your side, that’s higher than you.

    No matter what the world may say; and no matter what they do, I have all faith in Him, and I know He’ll see you through! Just don’t you doubt, for He’s going to work it out, everything will be all right soon, some people are so comical though, some may even be envious, for they think (How dare he be President,) he didn’t eat cavair!

    (they don’t know what you’ve eaten in life) for they may feel, you’ve eaten like some of us, (imagine that!) Oat meal, Grits and cold cereal without a millionaire’s silver spoon. We should all be able to see, that you’re humble and so down to earth, why don’t they give you a chance, they just might be amazed to see, just what you’re worth?

    To me, you’re worth more than rubies silver or gold, for your personality goes well with everyone, the young and the old. For those of them who don’t like you, the quantity of them is less, than those of us who do, and don’t forget Mr. President, you have God, Lady M and your children, and a mother-in-law and now a dog that enjoys you too. Mr. President, you don’t have to tell them, for I will, for I love you and your family and this is how I feel…LEAVE MY PRESIDENT ALONE! STOP TRYING SO HARD TO CAUSE HIM ANY STRESS, CAN’T YOU SEE HE’S TRYING TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE SO WE CAN ALL FINALLY TAKE A REST? Make an effort to stop the hate, can we try to live in unity? After all, we say we live in a land where men are actually FREE! It would be grand, if the whole world would take this time to come together; and all of us try our best to lay down the hate by the riverside and altogether participate, it would be oh so grand if we would all do it now, showing love to one another, for it’s never too late. After all, things don’t always stay the same, and I’m with my President, “IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE”

    There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. (Hebrews 4:9)

    “A Letter To MLK (beyond the grave)”

    Dear Martin Luther Kng Jr.

    You led us off with that old spiritual hymn: “We Shall Overcome” hug your wife Coretta snd tell her the former slaves anscestors won!

    Guess what dear Martin? We overcame, for it’s 01/20/09, and we have a newly elected President who shouts out loud: “It’s Time For A Change!”

    You stood for peace and didn’t want us to have any violence in our demostrations,you just wanted us to stand for what was right, so that we could become one nation. When Barack Obama won, it was a wonderful sight! The races came together, that was a warm sensation.

    All the world and it’s nation’ changed right before our eyes; Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asian, and Native Americans, hugged lauged and cried,and your former friend Jesse Jackson had tears in his eyes.

    You can be proud of your people though, Red, Yellow, black brown and White, there were no looting nor violence in sight. some of the world prayed to God, that Obama would win, and as we know there’s nothing impossble for Him! (GOD)

    With God’s help, Obama won! Give two thumbs up to the newly elected President, Barack Hussein Obama for a workman’s job well done.

    Secondly I ask myself this question, why was I the one to capture the image. My only answer to the second question is, I followed my own INTUITION on Saturday October 11, 2008.

I was thinking how many times that had happened to people in the last four years. I when back yesterday to see how he was doing. He was waiting for the service people to come back to turn the electricity back on. He had paid the bill. We talked I said keep moving, forward the “Light” that dwells within each of US. MY THOUGHTS ON THE FIRST DAY I SAW PRESIDENT OBAMA SPEAK.

    There he was standing on the stage no more than 200 feet from the front door of my business. It was so surreal him standing there 10:30 that morning over looking a crowd of hundreds in Progress Plaza the first and oldest Black owned shopping plaza in the country. Where some other great men stood talking about Change. Leon Sullivan, Martin Luther King, Muhammad Ali. I felt so proud, proud to be black, proud to be one of the first business owner’s in my family trying to make a difference. Thinking how difficult a journey it is going to be for him to become and succeed as President of the United States. Relating his Path to mine, to be successful in my endeavors.

    I love this picture. It is so powerful and I was very proud to work on the Obama campaign. I remember when I first met him in Cleveland before becoming President of the United States and hearing him deliver a speech, he made me think of how my parents must have felt when they had John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, I walked away with a feeling of hope, amazement, in love with the dream that things were really going to get better. I also walked knowing that if we EVER had or was going to get a African American President, this was the man! Not a doubt in my mind. Thank you Raymond for capturing the powerful stance of our President in the “Touched by the Light” photograph. You, too, are amazing!!

    I shot an assignment for a very large law firm in Philadelphia recently. It was a high profile case. My invoice never reached the proper person for payment for some reason. I received a phone call from an administrative assistant asking me to fax a copy to her. The next day I called to verify she received it, she stated she had and would put it in for payment once one of the senior partners sighed off on it. I called this morning to verify the invoice was being processed. I had to leave a message on her voice box, she returned my call shortly there after asking me if I wanted to check the check up it was ready. This is my point I called this person three times and left a message to please call me back, three times she called me back within a hours.
    I felt like I was dealing with an angel when I was speaking to her. I told her she was a rare human being (an angle). This morning I felt like I was being “Touched By The Light”. That was my experience a couple of hours ago. OM

    Light: What beautiful inspiration! If we all look for the light in everything we touch, do, and aspire for, wouldn’t that be marvelous? I sense a wonderful, powerful “becoming” that began to envlope us about the time of Obama’s election. That “becoming” spoke to attributes we all learned as children: respect for others, kindness, generosity of spirit, truth, gentleness in our reaction to the earth, and acceptance of the difference in people. These are all aspects of “light” that drove an overwhelming number of people to the “Obama movement” in the first place. Let us continue in that “light” as we continue “going ahead”

    I saw and listened to Barack Obama speak that day. It was the 2nd rally at Vernon Park, Phila, maybe an hour after this picture was taken. I distinctly remembered how happy Barack Obama was when he walked unto the podium that day, happier than I had ever seen him- I met, hugged and shook hands with him on three other occasions- there was something special about him that day- it was as if he knew that he would win the election. I remember that it was one of those bright clear days. The sun was bright in a clear sky. I remember how he looked as he danced unto the podium. I sensed and felt something new and powerful. Now I know what it was – he had been Touched By The Light. I always believed that he was born to fulfil his destiny of being the leader of the world. He is the anointed one.

    I went to a memorial service yesterday for a friend who passed away recently. They spoke glowingly of his warm heart, love of freedom, black people and his desire for all black people to be free. It was a beautiful service. During the service the President Obama administration was spoken about in a not so pleasing manner to some maybe. Every person has a right to their own opinion. Here is my take on President Obama in reverse order. President Obama, president-elect Obama, presidential candidate Obama, Senator Obama, community activist Obama, graduate student Obama, college student Obama, middle school Obama, elementary school Obama, in his mother’s womb Obama, in the spirit world Obama preparing to come to this world we live in. It is said we are all the same spirit but we are covered by Maya. We are all spirit fighting for our freedom, the freedom of the awareness of our own true-self. No manner what President Barack Obama does, he could become a black militant we still have to fight for our own freedom it is the law of the Universe. To me President Obama is a blessing to this world we live in. We have to fight for our freedom as spiritual beings no matter what. It is said by the great beings, that fight for FREEDOM is the greatest of all.

    I had a conversation with a friend last night about President Obama, he was very discouraged about the performance of our President. He had hoped, President Obama would be a trend setter, a creator of a new way of handling politics in DC. My thought is, he is the president of the United States at one of the most difficult times in this country’s history, he is the first black president of a country build on the shoulders of slavery. There are a lot of people in this country who are trying to imposing their will in away that is not positive. I believe it is our responsible to fight back using our own free will to create a positive environment can dwell in safely. It is the nature of the Universe to move forward no matter what.

    Are we, creators of our own Universe paying attention to our Inner Self. I use to think if I treated people well, got up each morning and meditated, that would be enough. It once was, it no longer is, there is more to do, more to discover, more to experience in the inner world.

It seems I see to many people walking around in the middle of the day in certain sections of the city as if they are in a dazes. No jobs or jobs that pay barely over the legal limit. I have been watching RT television station (35) and am starting to believe Wall Street (big money) IS controlling America at the cost of the non wealthy. If that become a wide based belief in America, What will happen? We must still focus on the Light no matter what. President Obama is the right person for this time in America’s history. But he can not do it alone.

    I went to “Occupy Wall Street” Philadelphia today. I am hopeful the movement will grow. I do believe many more people from all communities need to get involved. There are not enough people of color showing up and supporting “Occupy Wall Street” in Philadelphia. To many seem to be stuck in their world which only expands to around the corner and up the street.

What I said was, “I am here to talk about this image I capture of Obama on October 11, 2008”. The Universe wanted me to capture the and now it is time to put the effort out to get it viewed nation wide.

    The year 2012 is here I am committed to the “Touched By The Light” image. Some people have come and gone. The year 2011 was very challenging, I went thru a period of near homelessness. If it were not for the help of a couple of family members I would have been on the streets. I have learned to focus on the Indweller no matter what. I have learned people I thought were my friends, were not. I have learned to be careful of the company I keep. Both within my own mind and in the outer world. This image of President Obama was captured for a good reason. I keep my faith in it. Your’s truly, Manohar.

    I have learned there is a huge difference from going into a situation and capturing images versus being the individual in the situation. When you drive thru a poor neighborhood, you do not have the experience of being the person living in that neighborhood poor and not able to determine out to get out. You do not smell the environment, the urine, the feeling of hopelessness waiting to grab hold of you, waiting to bring you down if you are not strong enough to fight if off. There were moments when the thought ran thru my mind, “give up”! Then I remembered who I am. I am Manohar the son of God.

    The Obama Factor: A Journey into the Nature of Consciousness and Change

    Douglas E. Thomas, Ph.D.

    Release date: April 2012

    Preface

    The Obama Factor: A Journey into the Nature of Consciousness and Change is the first book that inquires into the spiritual nature of Barack Obama prior to his political rise to power in the United States. The approach taken by the author to write this book is through the theological and ideological lens of “New Age” or what is presently referred to as “New Thought.” The content of this book was primarily developed from Obama’s autobiography Dreams of my Father and other recent biographies. For it was in his memoirs that were first published in 1995 that Obama’s unguarded ideas of himself and the world were freely discussed. This book is a very creative and imaginative extrapolation of his memoirs. One that unveils and decodes Obama’s true nature and sheds light on the religious and political philosophy that continues to shape his thinking.

    The author systematically explores the nature of religion and spirituality, and how it shaped Obama’s perspectives on life from his early days in Indonesia where he was exposed to Roman Catholicism and Islam; to the epiphany and vision he had at his father’s grave-site in Kenya; to his time in Chicago spent with Reverend Jeremiah Wright. It was in Chicago under the tutelage of Reverend Wright, where he fully embraced African American culture, its historical vision, and the spirituality of the Black Church in general. In particular, it was Obama’s experience with Reverend Wright that allowed him to develop a clear portrait of himself as a black man in the United States. Only after his experiences in Chicago was he then able to reflect on his life and finally begin to find meaning out of the world he was so desperately trying to understand.

    In his book Dreams of my Father, Obama makes numerous statements that clearly place him outside of the traditional confines of religion. Such as, his continuous search to find ways on how best to “heal a malnourished world” and seeing a “new map of the world.” This book carefully explores those ideas from a spiritual or interfaith perspective and concludes that Obama’s rise to power is a universal symbol or microcosm of the energy shift occurring on planet earth. It is this change in consciousness that is currently showering upon us all a heightened sense of awareness. It further encourages the reader to take in this same energy and watch the unimaginable manifest in their life, as it was able to do so with Obama.

    Overall, I am very grateful to the people who assisted me with this project. I especially want to thank the two primary founders of Boricua College in New York City, President Dr. Victor Alicea and Vice President Dr. Maria Montes. Both are responsible for creating a holistic approach to educating that has not only benefited the students at the college, but I have also used many of the humanistic methods to create a structure for writing this work of love. I also want to thank my colleagues and especially my students at Boricua College for allowing me to think out loud and openly discuss some of the ideas expressed in this book with them. They provided me with the kind of support and unconditional love that was necessary for the completion of this project.

    Finally, I want to thank Ms. Tamar Bonne-Annee, Dr. Rachel Ortiz, Ms. Katherine Nelson and Ms. Yvette Stokes who is the founder and president of YS Auxiliary Service for their commitment to my scholarship and me. Each one of these individuals are very busy professionals and yet they assisted me in ways that without their support this project could not have been completed. I cover each one of them in love.

    For over a year the Universe has been waking me up around 3:00AM to meditate. Most of the time I would not get up, I waited until 5:00AM or 6:00AM instead. I knew I should get up but I did not want to! All of the great saints and siddhas meditate between 3:00AM to 6:00AM. I guess the Universe got tried of asking nicely to get up and me not obeying. I am now in a situation where I have no option. I now go to bed at 8:00AM get up at 3:00AM, sit down and meditate for a hour on the Indweller. The Universe knew I would not go out into the world, without first meditating in the morning. The image “Touched By The Light” is the result of over 32 year of me getting up each morning and first mediating in the morning before going out into the world. Salutation to the Universe!

With a great happiness and disbelieve you find the coins to pay the fare. You wonder how you created this life of no money.

    Picture this scene. You are aware of the fact you are a GREAT BEING! You have the ability to create your own reality.

    We do it every morning when we get out of bed. We make a decision to get out of the bed and that is what happens. We create everything that happens in our life. The good and bad. Listen to your thoughts. Thoughts create your life experiences. That is what the great beings say.

    The Obama Factor: How Barack Obama Elevated Human Consciousness
    Excerpt
    Release date: April 2012
    Author: Douglas Thomas, PhD

    Chapter 1

    The Obama Factor

    Barack Obama is perhaps the most important political figure in the history of the United States. He symbolizes the shift in cosmic energy that is now occurring throughout the planet. More than any other individual in this country, Obama’s presence does indeed represent the shift in consciousness that is preparing us for the next phase in human growth and development. He is not unique in this regard, but simply the most visible person who became a vehicle for the flow of energy in our universe. This movement of energy has elevated him and human consciousness in general, to one of its highest levels since the last great western awakening that occurred with the Olmec/Myan civilization in Central America. As quickly as the offspring of the Olmec’s disappeared, leaving only a few visible traces behind, Obama also seemed to come out of no-where and was suddenly thrust onto the world stage. Yet, in reality he has been preparing his entire life to assume the position he now occupies. His preparation to assume his current role is primarily due to the nature of his thinking. For eventually we all become our thoughts. In fact, all that we have ever thought is what will manifests in our lives. We can never be no less or anything greater than the thoughts we have of ourselves and the world.1

    Answering the Call
    Some charged Obama as arrogant to write a memoir at such a tender age when he wrote his autobiography, Dreams of my Father. Henry Ferris, editor of Time Books captures the wisdom that drove Obama to write his story as a young man instead of waiting until he accomplished more in life. “He thought enough of himself, that he thought to write his autobiography at age thirty. He knew his story was special, his parentage was interesting. He had that much of a sense of story. I saw him as a person who at that time was in a position to talk about race relations in this country in a way that certainly I can’t and few can. He understands the white world and the black world and he was tossed back and forth between them. That was something that I remember him talking about being in a position to speak about things in way that others couldn’t.” 2

    Another important character trait that distinguished Presidential Candidate Obama in 2008 from his political colleagues and others in general, was the belief he held about himself as a human being. He viewed himself as a person that was inseparably connected to the world and all its inhabitants. Obama also possessed an important political ingredient called audacity—the belief that he could create a life and future for himself in an image that maximized his talents, skills, and gifts. Thus, he kicked off his presidential campaign based on his unique understanding of himself and the universe. His presidential race in 2008 was not at all centered on what he had already accomplished, but he chose to run based on who he was and what he could be. In this regard, Obama was unlike all of his predecessors who ran for president based on previous experience. He entered the race with a focus on “where he came from, how he came to understand himself and ultimately, how he managed to protect his own temperament and personality as a reflection of American ambitions and hopes would be at the center of his rhetoric and appeal.” 3

    At the core of selling himself to the American people was his concept of self. Again, his vision of himself as a human being was not premised upon any prior great accomplishments. “He yet, by any means was not a great man,” said David Remnick. “But he was the promise of greatness.” He would market an idea of himself and his re-created image of a better future to the American people. Clearly Obama understood that the future was directly connected to the past and that one cannot properly move forward without honoring the past. Thus, he kicked off his presidential campaign at one of the most hallow and sacred places in all of America—Brown Chapel AME Church in Selma, Alabama. This is the same place where Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. officially began his international campaign for peace and justice. King called his campaign a “Creative Battle.” 4 Obama referred to his as one of Change.

    Pissed off at the President of the United States

    Cornel West and Tavis Smiley are pissed off at the President of the United States. No one is quite sure why this is the case. All we know is that they are not happy with how his administration appears to ignore the dismal plight of African Americans.

    Both West and Smiley seem to have good hearts and their focus on the woes facing African Americans appears authentic. However, both of these men seem to have misunderstood the nature of external power. One may not expect Smiley to posses such knowledge of matters that are quite subtle and existential in nature. But West is a philosopher and has been playing the game as a Harvard and Princeton Professor for his entire adult life. He must know the difference between external power and real power. External power is something bestowed upon another by an individual or source that share a similar ideology. On the other hand, authentic power is internal and not dissuaded or influenced by external forces. This was the kind of power exhibited by Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. and Malcolm X.

    West and Smiley must understand that the President of the United States operates from within the realm of external power. He cannot do as he pleases and is forced to work from within certain boundaries and constraints. West should be ashamed of himself to believe that President Obama has the power to solve the dilemma facing the African American community. Even if he did have the power to make their situation improve overnight it would be a mistake to vanquish their problems by simply waving a wand. We are all here to experience life and to learn certain lessons that are necessary for our growth and development. No has the right to take that away from another person. We are called to work out our own salvation first and then we will have the power to create a beautiful community.

    President Obama did not come here to save anyone except himself and to share the gifts he has been given to deposit into the earth. I think that he is doing a great job carrying out his life assignment. No one has the right to judge another human being because we all have a unique calling. West and Smiley can make better use of their time by discovering their vocation and carrying out the beautiful work they were assigned. I am certain that they were not called to bash the President.

If I recall correctly he said “the change is you”. That touched a high cord in me. Because I believe it is true, if we want a better life we have to change. We as beings with “free wil” have the ability to create our own life. It can be very challenging at times. I know from my own experience first hand. I was surprised last week when President Obama performed so poorly during the presidential debates. I do not no if that the plan or what. It can not happen again. Some say he is tired from three years of fighting with the opposition. If that is so he must re-energize himself.

    President Obama recently received praise from Republican Gov. Christie of New Jersey, in his handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy which torn up the east coast of United States less than ten days before the 2012 presidential elections. He told the nation, ” President Obama gave him his cell number and told him to directly call him”, (President Obama) if he needed help.

    Millions of Black men need to standup in America. President Obama is the FIRST Black president of United States. (2008). During his first term the “others” and lots of us were on him like white on rice! He could have given up. He did not. He just won a second term. What lesson can be learned. Never give up. Focus and refocus. This goes for you Manohar. When you get caught up in some crazy fight to get OUT! Even if it seems to take forever. Even if you misplace your faith. Go find it. Sit down, meditate. On this planet the gift given to you is photography. Your guide is the GURU. OM

    For a short, but too long of time I was a toll collector on the turnpike. I had stopped believing I was a professional photographer. It was not a good time, it was the first time in my life I actually hated a job. I found the courage to QUIT it. I share that little insight because one day I was at that job and a scene happened. I saw a co-worker and someone go into the toll booth next to mine. The next moment I hear this ranging scream of pain from a human being. The two people come out of the booth with the woman who was working in there. She was in mental torment. I later found out her 14 year old son dropped dead playing basketball. I never saw her again until yesterday. When I ran into her at a movie theater. We waved to each other, I walked up to her, I could see the tears in her eyes. Let me say this at this point, I did not really know this woman. She stood up and I held her. She cried. Sat back down cried some more. I grabbed her arm to have her stand back up which she did and I held her a second time. We sat down together, I tried to comfort her I knew there was nothing I could say to erase her pain, (and said that to her) she agreed. She was in mental darkness. She can not understand why her only son, the love of her LIFE was taken from her. I do not understand either. But I do know this. Earlier that morning I was in New York City, I made a decision to come back to Philadelphia. And I realize that 100 mile journey was suppose to happen so I could comfort the woman for a short period of time. I doubt I will ever see her again. LIFE IS MOMENT TO MOMENT.

    I was talking to a friend yesterday by President Obama. He won a second term in office. About 52% of the country was happy. Lots of people were disappointed with his first term in office. Some people thought he was too soft. Too nice. I am one of them. I realize he had a tough job. First Black president of the United States, a Black man. A trail blazer that is a steep mountain to climb in this country. I think he has learned a lesson. You can not be soft with the Republican party. They eat human beings alive. That also applies on the lower ring of society. On a daily bases people are carrying heavy lots. Their actions can seem strange. What is pretty and handsome may be ugly and terrifying. It is the way of the outer world. Try to focus on the positive. President Obama will do a much better job during his second term in office.

I believe the only reasons I am making commenting on my blog is because of the image I captured of Obama in 2008 and the “Portraits of Caregivers”, project I worked on in 2007.     I am ready for 2013. The past four years were a learning experience for me. At times I misplaced my focus. For a period of time I was a toll collector (the worst job in my life, I felt like a paid slave). I am thankful for the grace it did bring. It cleared the way for me to see.”I am a professional photographer”. I took the position because I was overcome by FEAR. And I lost faith in my own SELF. I wanted healthcare coverage which I happened had in five years. Which I still do not have. It is exciting to get up to meditate in the early morning again. I have strong ideas for my photography. Please keep in mind this blog is for the Love of the Universe. And I reserve the right to disprove any comment which preaches hate. Lets Love each other. I believe at times human beings harm each other because of harmful things that have happened to them in the past. Please keep in mind at every moment of our life’s we have the opportunity to follow the high ground. I repeat at every moment in each person’s life we have the opportunity to follow the Higher Ground. This Universe, according to the Great Realized Being say this Universe was created out of Love. But I think that is only for a select group of people. If you do not have the education for the hot jobs, you are in trouble. 2013 in America is starting to remind me of a futuristic country where there are the have and have nots.     Twelve thirty-one sixteen -‘the end is imminent;
    8 years the increment. Looking back considerin’
    the pros, cons, and benefits…
    Though well short of “hope and change’s” expectations,
    the reality still amazes.
    Of A nation built by racists
    on the backs of blacks and victimization
    came a man of both races;
    African and Caucasian,
    Intelligent and engaging;
    Harvard education,
    clean cut and clean shaven,
    had us contemplatin’
    -the result of generations’
    -hard work and hard prayin.
    -Maybe partial payment
    for so many days of enslavement…
    But looking back the evidence be
    “White House residency”
    and “presidency”
    lack relevancy
    -if the man’s intent is actually to be addressin me.
    The going rate for re-election:
    voting rights act’s protections,
    and black boys’ subjection
    to contaminated injections.
    It seems it’s all a ruse,
    Bland & Rice received abuse,
    but then in the news
    -it’s ill to hear the truth.
    they stopped to pick up food for dillan roof
    and labeled the goon a “troubled” youth
    -for this there’s no excuse.
    Barack had good intentions…. -well maybe.
    But when a homemade plane landed on the lawn, it’ll drive a brother crazy.
    Secret Service in colombia abandoned they’ post;
    the underlyin message ain’t that they were chasing them hos.
    Just another subtle reminda
    “u can get touched -cuz ain’t no body behind ya.”
    In the end, u gotta be willing to risk it all.
    No compromisin -u gotta have the courage, u gotta have the gall.
    Not like X, MLK or Khalid Muhammad, they created this guy “he killed osama bin laden.”
    This man wasn’t built for the challenge, and so for THEM he did it right.
    He was built to talk, built to sell, but not at all built to fight.
    As I reflect on a picture I saw of him once,
    I see the continuation of our plight, I realize he’s been touched by something, but not yet by the light.

    Light is being replaced by DDT which was outlawed in the late 50’s.
